Siting the cow shed. if the cattle/buffalo are to be kept in the basement under the human dwelling or if a shed is to be constructed making use of an existing wall of a house, there will be very little choice in siting the cattle shed. (40) if a choice is available, the following should be taken into account in siting.. (a) it is usually covered shed where cows are fed dry feed like hay. although silage may also be fed here but often it is fed outside in feed bunks of paved yards. (b) feeding area must be close and convenient to milking parlour because it can serve as a holding area for the cows during milking.. Two designs of the cattle houses were prepared. one for 20 lactating cows which has actual capacity of 40 cattle i.e., in addition to 20 lactating cows there is space for 10 pregnant cows and 10 heifers. likewise the other design is for half the capacity i.e., for 10 lactating cows along with 5 pregnant cows and 5 heifers..
